I really enjoyed this fall session in the woods last weekend. I am so happy mom is pregnant with number 2 and look forward to meeting her! This little girl could not have been any cuter or more fun to capture. She took directions better than most 5 year olds I have photographed (including my own for sure!) I look forward to sharing their gallery with them this week!

You have spent countless hours (and often money too) getting ready for this – everything from getting haircuts to new outfits to discussions on how the children will behave. For what? The best images of your family of course! After so much is invested in your portrait, why not invest as much time in determining the optimal way to display them? Sure, this type of planning is part of the benefit of viewing your images in a scheduled presentation but here is a few combinations to get you thinking before you even step foot in the studio. After all, why not think about what you will do with all those great images – it definitely should impact all the other planning (i.e., outfits, who is in the images, etc.) that goes into your portrait session.

TGIF!!! A busy past few days but looking forward to a relaxing weekend with my family…ahhh the calm before the storm! I have had the most beautiful babies come visit me lately. Here are some sneak peeks from recent sessions…and read on for a rare behind the scenes look at a before (straight out of camera) and after image!

And here is a behind the scenes look. A photographer always strives to “get it right” in camera. BUT, with today’s technology there is so much opportunity to take a great image and make it a piece of art! This next image is a perfect example! Notice the color pop, texture, skin tone that is on the “after image”. This is only a part of what goes into the post processing phase of digital photography. I do not apply these types of processing to all of my images – you can OVER process. But when I feel it will enhance an image, I go for it and love to create! So glad photoshop enables me to create what I envision because my ability to draw or paint are severely limited! Glad my kids take after my husband in this area!

I love to incorporate textures in my images as well as fill them with lots of color! The images below showcase some of this style and really demonstrates the difference between a boutique custom photography studio versus what you will find in your local mall. Yes, it requires much more time to produce, but what you end up with is a truely unique artistic masterpiece! So, bring on the images! The first are from a session to capture a little girls first communion while the second batch is a 5 week old little girl that was the least bit sleepy for 3/4 of our session (hard to believe given these images, huh?)

I was so happy to photograph baby Emma on Wednesday at 12 days new! I sure have seen lots of newborns lately and am loving it! AND, I understand part of the reason – lots of teachers timing the birth perfectly to coincide with the upcoming summer break! Emma was super sleepy in the beginning but moving to props, well, she wasn’t as happy about that and would have rather stayed on the nice cozy blanket and decided she would show us and stay awake! But, mom and grandma decided a car ride might do the trick and it sure did at least for 1 or 2 of the prop images! Great idea!
So, here is a sneak peek of some of the images from Emma’s session! Such a beautiful little girl and so happy she is healthy!

Hard to believe another week is almost over! Luckily we got a taste of spring here in the northeast with temps in the 50′s and 60′s. Can you say spring fever! Having lots of fun in the studio with more newborns but…before I get to a few sneak peek images, here is this weeks photography tip:

Frame your subject. Use windows, door frames, bridges, arches, trees etc. to create a natural frame and help draw attention to the subject. Just ensure the horizon doesn’t cut through the subject’s head!

And now presenting the latest little masterpiece in my studio! Baby T. Her gorgeous mama was in just a few weeks before for maternity images and baby T. is just as beautiful! Enjoy!
